AP - SALT LAKE CITY - An escaped inmate slashed the neck of a 59-year-old truck driver inside a fast-food restaurant as the two fought over a gun the inmate is accused of using to fatally shoot his guard, the driver said.

“I don’t know where I got the strength,” Eric Fullerton, who eventually wrested the gun away, told the Deseret Morning News for a story Wednesday. “I just knew I couldn’t let go or I would be dead.”

The former Army paratrooper was in line Monday morning at an Arby’s restaurant when Curtis Allgier, a heavily tattooed man with a swastika on his forehead, ran in with a gun.

Authorities allege Allgier shot and killed corrections officer Stephen Anderson with the guard’s gun about an hour earlier while the men were alone in a room during a medical appointment at the University of Utah.

He led police on a high-speed chase Monday before bailing out at Arby’s, authorities said.

Fullerton said he jumped the counter and got the gun out of Allgier’s hands. During the struggle, the prisoner slashed his neck with a serrated knife, he said. Fullerton was not seriously injured but needed stitches.

Police stormed in moments later and captured Allgier as he hid in a manager’s office.

Allgier was in the Salt Lake County jail Wednesday awaiting charges in Anderson’s death. He did not have an attorney assigned to him as of Wednesday, officials said.

In an interview Wednesday with a Salt Lake City station KUTV, Allgier said the gun “went off” during his struggle with the guard as he tried to escape.

“I never pulled that trigger one time in that whole episode,” Allgier said.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) — A Belgian businessman rejected a Nigerian job applicant because the businessman said his own dog was racist and would bite non-whites, Belgian media reported Saturday. The 53-year-old Nigerian man told De Standaard newspaper he arrived at the Belgian’s wrought-iron business and was immediately confronted by the barking dog.

The Belgian turned the man away before he could even enter, and wrote on his labor office letter that he could not hire the man because of his color, adding there was a risk the dog would bite him.

The local labor office has concluded that the Belgian was racist and has removed him from its list of potential employers.

“My dog is racist. Not me,” the Belgian told De Standaard.

The Nigerian, who has lived in Belgium for 32 years, said it was not the first time he had been rejected for a job because of his color, although other employers had been more subtle.

Utah County Republicans ended their convention on Saturday by debating Satan’s influence on illegal immigrants.

The group was unable to take official action because not enough members stuck around long enough to vote, despite the pleadings of party officials. The convention was held at Canyon View Junior High School.

Don Larsen, chairman of legislative District 65 for the Utah County Republican Party, had submitted a resolution warning that Satan’s minions want to eliminate national borders and do away with sovereignty.

In a speech at the convention, Larsen told those gathered that illegal immigrants “hate American people” and “are determined to destroy this country, and there is nothing they won’t do.”

Illegal aliens are in control of the media, and working in tandem with Democrats, are trying to “destroy Christian America” and replace it with “a godless new world order — and that is not extremism, that is fact,” Larsen said.

At the end of his speech, Larsen began to cry, saying illegal immigrants were trying to bring about the destruction of the U.S. “by self invasion.”

AP — CAMDEN, N.J. — Gov. Jon S. Corzine was apparently not wearing his seat belt as required by law when his official SUV crashed into a guard rail, leaving the governor hospitalized in critical condition, a spokesman said Friday.

A state trooper was driving Corzine to a meeting between Don Imus and the Rutgers women’s basketball team Thursday night when another vehicle, swerving to avoid a pickup truck, hit the governor’s SUV and sent it into the guard rail on the Garden State Parkway.

The crash broke the governor’s leg, six ribs, his sternum and a vertebrae. Authorities were searching for the pickup truck driver blamed for causing it.

When the new chocolate-coloured sofa set was delivered to her Brampton home, Doris Moore was stunned to see packing labels describing the shade as “Nigger-brown.”

She and husband Douglas purchased a sofa, loveseat and chair in dark brown leather last week from Vanaik Furniture and Mattress store on Dundas St. E.

Moore, 30, who describes herself as an African-American born and raised in New York, said it was her 7-year-old daughter who pointed out the label just after delivery men from the Mississauga furniture store left.

“She’s very curious and she started reading the labels,” Moore explained. “She said, `Mommy, what is nig … ger brown?’ I went over and just couldn’t believe my eyes.”

dan: she said, dabbing her eyes with an extra-large tissue from the special, “kike-sized” box on her end table. apparently the sofa was made in china though, so you can blame the heathen chinee for this.

When interviewed yesterday by the Star, Romesh Kumar, Vanaik’s assistant manager, passed the buck to his supplier, Cosmos Furniture in Scarborough.

“Why should I take the blame?” he said. “I’m a trader, I don’t manufacture. I sell from 20 companies, maybe 50 companies. How can I take care of all of them?”

He said that he would check similar stock and make sure other labels were removed.

“That’s terrible, that’s a racial … something?” Kumar said. “This is entirely wrong, but it’s not my fault. It’s my job to sell good product to people.”
